iText is a library that allows you to generate PDF files on the fly. The iText classes are very useful for people who need to generate read-only, platform independent documents containing text, lists, tables and images. The library is especially useful in combination with Java(TM) technology-based Servlets: The look and feel of HTML is browser dependent; with iText and PDF you can control exactly how your servlet's output will look.
Bruno Lowagie is the initial developer and one of the current maintainers of iText, a free Java-PDF library. He works as a developer for the ICT department of Ghent University, Belgium. Last year he wrote a book for Manning Publications, titled iText in Action. Bruno lives in Ghent (Belgium) with his wife and two sons.
Paulo Soares has a M.SC. in Electronics and Telecommunications and started his professional life designing RF equipment for the Portuguese Navy. Later on he moved to Consiste, a 300 employee company specialized in software development for the health sector, where he currently heads the development in the pharmacy division in an heterogeneous environment using a mixture of C++, Delphi, Java and C#. In 2000, while looking for a PDF generator for a banking application, he selected iText as the one that held the best promises for the future and that came to be true. He is co-developer of iText. He lives in Lisbon (Portugal) with his wife and 3 kids.
